The beginning of Christianity in this area can be traced to at least 300 years back. The existence of a Christian cemetery at Sasthamcotta in 1830 is recorded. The faithful of the area were members of Pattakadavu parish. A separate Church was built here in 1919. Sasthamkotta was erected a parish in 1922. The Church was renovated in 1979. Since then the Church saw many renovations. A Lower Primary School was established here in 1906. Franciscan Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary have a convent here providing solace to the people.
