St. Francis Assisi Church, Karithura, is a Parish belonging to the Latin Diocese of Quilon. It is located in Chavara, near the Indian Rate Earths Limited (I.R.E.L.). The Parish has St. Francis of Assisi as its Patron Saint. It is considered to have been existing since 1893. Its Facade was renovated in 1959, and the present Church which had been renovated in 1990, was blessed by then Bishop, Most. Rev. Joseph G. Fernandez. Karithura Church situated in the coastal area of Chavara, has almost 260 families as its members, mostly fisherfolk.
