With the establishment of Fatima Mata National College in 1951 many catholics from different parts ofQuilon settled down in Pattathanam. The area coming under Bharatha Rajni was part of Tuet and Tope parishes. Formerly Holy Mass was solemnized in a room in FMN College. Later as the college developed and the number of faithful increased this arrangement became inconvenient and Holy Mass was offered in Krist Raj High School. In 1969 the construction of the present church started. It was completed and blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome M. Fernandez, who christened the parish as Bharatha Rajni as part of his agenda of Indianisation of the church. He also designed a unique icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Indian style. Rev. Fr. M. Antony the warden of the College Hostel was largely responsible for forming a Christian community in this area. It was erected an independent parish in June 19, 1994. The first parish priest was Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Peter.
